Fire Pit

Well, we finished staining our deck.  Nothing like setting a deadline for yourself.  After I uploaded the deck stain post a couple weeks ago I told Brian I wanted to have people over to force us to not put off staining and get it done.

We were putting on the final touches the morning of our party.  And many many thanks go out to Sally, Brian’s mom, for helping us get our house/yard in order before people arrived.  Check it out.  Fresh flowers, freshly stained deck, fresh pansies, freshly stained mailbox and crock pot recipes warming on the counters.

We had a fun time carving pumpkins and hanging out around the fire pit.  Brian and I even got to meet our neighbors, the Brewers!  It was fun to meet them because that’s my maiden name.  Fittingly, Mr. Brewer brews his own beer.  He even contributed some Pumpkin Ale for the party.  Yum!  Here’s a few pics of the pumpkin carving fun.  Several friends brought their cute kiddos.  I especially liked the dressed up Mary Wallace (an adorable strawberry costume her mommy made!).

Unfortunately, I wasn’t great at taking pictures once it got later.  I missed pics of a lot of people, but I’m glad you each stopped by!  And here are some photos of the very nice pumpkins people carved!

Good job, everybody!  And thanks for a fun evening!

Donation

So, I recently donated 8” of hair to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program.  I hadn’t intentionally set out to grow my hair out for donation…but as time when by and it just kept getting longer I started contemplating the idea.  Just about the time I was getting completely tired of dealing with so much hair I had a coworker measure it.  From the nape of my neck it was about 10.5” and I was determined to get it chopped!

The same coworker recommended her stylist, Anthony at Crazy Combs so last Friday I called him up to see if he had something available.  I wasn’t expecting to be told, I have an opening at 2:30.  GULP!  I booked the appointment, printed off the inspiration photos I had collected on pinterest and prepared to take the plunge!

Here are the before shots.  Not a great make-up/outfit/hair day…it was casual Friday! What do you expect?

The stylist put my hair in a ponytail and soon there was no turning back!  I was surprised at how long my hair was even after the initial chop!  My stylist was hesitant to take the during shots because he didn’t want anyone to think he had purposely cut my hair in this fashion!  Haha.

And the afters.  The angle is weird but it gives you an idea of the style.  I really like how it turned out and it’s been fun and easy to maintain thus far.  Needless to say my hair doesn’t quite look like this when I’m done styling it…ha, but I’m still happy with how it turns out!

I hope my donated hair is going to be put to good use making some worthy recipient a beautiful wig!

Check it out, maybe you can donate your hair, too!

Stain Days

Uh oh.  Head feeling stuffy, head hurting, slight sniffle going on.  Hope it's not the onset of my first cold this season :(.  Hoping it's just a lack of sleep making me feel a little woozy.
-------------------------anyway------------------------
Yay for Fall!  Brian and I are in the process of staining our deck.  We picked 5 sample colors and what did we go with?!

A color we didn't even sample!  Seriously.  So you won't find it among the 5 shown above.  We looked at the Behr brochure and saw this house that was similar in color to ours, with white trim and said hey, that looks awesome, let's do it.  It's called Behr Sable solid stain.

I admit, I was hesitant at first and was totally regretting biting the bullet on a color we hadn't sampled.  I was convinced the chocolaty brown color shown in the pamphlet was in fact purple...well, had a purple hue.  But Brian assured me that it would dry beautifully; I wasn't so sure.

I will post pictures once we're done, but all I have to say is Ooo La La!  Loving it!  It's gonna look so good once it's all done.  We are excited to host a get together and haul out the fire pit soon!!
